Wow! May already.
I can't believe that Tinker's fun and vibrant art will be coming down from the walls at Flying Squirrel in less than a week! She has a show coming up in Homer, so if there's something you were thinking of for that big empty spot in your living room, come by in the next few days to purchase it. Meanwhile, May brings all kinds of changes around Talkeetna. Here's what's going on at the Squirrel...
Summer Hours & New Bread Schedule
TUESDAYS-SATURDAYS, 7:30am-7pm, SUNDAYS 8am-5pm
WOOD FIRED PIZZA NIGHTS - THURSDAYS & SATURDAYS, 4-9pm - if you haven't tried our pizza yet, come on over! It's ALWAYS crisp on the bottom, we change the menu every week with creative and traditional varieties, we have delicious green salads on pizza night, a unique selection of beer and wine, AND all the regular sweets and savories. Maybe we'll even find a way for you to stand around a fire pit outside with your drink while you wait! Although, our brick oven is FAST and the wait is rarely more than 15 minutes!
With another day added and summer coming, the bread schedule has been modified somewhat. To find out when you're favorite bread will be available click here!
Second Saturday Art Opening
Please join us for the opening reception for My Father's Notes, an exhibition of calligraphic paintings by Betsy Heilman on Saturday, May 8, 3-5pm. Betsy's paintings are sure to be vibrant and provocative. These new paintings focus on truisms found in Betsy's father's notes from the World Business Council Conference in Durango, Colorado in 1982. The show will be on display at the Squirrel until the second week in June.
Mother's Day Brunch
Sunday, May 9, 2010, 11am-3pm
Treat Mom to a special brunch at the Flying Squirrel! Live instrumental music from 1-2pm with two talented young Anchorage music students. Plus a little something extra for all the mothers to take home to show OUR appreciation for all they do. Brunch price includes: one choice of 6 entrees, one choice of 3 decadent desserts, and one choice of a fancy beverage, plus coffee, tea or juice and a bit more traditional table service than you're used to around here. Mom deserves to be waited on! There will be a special menu for children under 12. Reservations are not required, but feel free to let us know you're coming and we'll hold a table for you! Click here for a peek at the menu.
Summer Goals
A fishing trip would be a great goal...and a flower garden. I'll keep wishing for those while trying to focus on some of these summer time projects: a fenced yard and fire pit, bike rack, kids summer cooking class, bread at Cubby's Marketplace, pastries and breads at Trapper Creek Fireweed Festival and area farmer's markets, fall harvest "Alaskavore" dinner, gluten free bread and pizza options.... And the list goes on and on!
One last note: PLEASE SUPPORT THE SUNSHINE TRANSIT VAN!!! We have transit van tickets available here and the schedule is posted on the bulletin board in our entry way. They have a bike rack, too. This is a great service and in the end, enough local ridership is needed to ensure that it will continue. Why drive when someone else is willing to do it for you?
Here's looking forward to green up!
